EOY Reflection
This year has been very different from the others, mainly because it's junior year and it's been dubbed the "most difficult year". It's also been different because e-Comm has played a bigger role in my school career than it has before. The class introduced me to more friends and a fake family I'll never be able to forget. I always look forward to coming to class and winding down. This year has also been more difficult than before; the projects were harder and more in-depth.
The e-Communications program values five guarantees:
technology, collaboration, communication, project management, and leadership.
Technology has taught me new ways to create websites and to never take the easy
way out because it will get you later. Collaboration has taught me to always
ask for opinions and continue working based on the suggestions given.
Communication has taught me there is always someone who can help. Project
management has taught me that there is a certain standard of time something
should be worked on, usually a week or two; no project should take a day (Web
class of 16-17, I think) or fourish weeks (Smitty’s). Leadership has taught me
to go for what I think the website should look like and then tweak it rather
than spending a lot of time at the drawing board. All of these skills are
intertwined and support each other. I've made progress with some of
these values by asking for feedback and help and learning new technical
skills. The other skills like project management I need to continue working
because I usually get distracted by Netflix or people sitting around me
(Marissa). The distractions like Netflix and friends are challenges because I
focus on them rather than my work but sometimes it's good to take a break.
Hopefully, next year I will improve because then I will also work on
motivation. These skills are important because they won't just help me with
e-Comm, they will stay with me when I graduate, onto college, and onto whatever
I do next. There isn’t anything I would change from this year because who knows
how the year would’ve gone had I done something differently. This year was a
change for myself and many people around me with the shift in priorities and a
journey in self-discovery.
Overall, this year is one I’ll always remember, from the
memories I’ve made in the web room to memories of hanging out with friends outside
of school. Junior web has allowed a connection to classmates and invited
friendships to grow and improve. For example, I’ve known Sabeeha since e9 and
we became pretty close this year. I’ve also become closer to Marissa and Ava. e-Comm
allowed me to work on soft skills like communication and hard skills like
coding. It was also a year to learn different ways people make websites, like
using Wordpress and trying out flash animation. Junior year was a blast. J
